SUBJECT: Decommissioning of the SCiPnet anomaly. Definitly.

I have come to an u217217217217nderstanding of what the root of the SCiPnet anomaly actually is, and I now know how to put an end to it, maybe bein217217g the best and only way to trully contain its effects.

Maia, I'll give you about 10 hours, at the end of it, you an217217217217217217he entire RAISA will have to backup EVERYTHING, and completely DELETE217217217217 the SCiPnet. Wait a couple hours, and then start it again from scratch using every s217217ingle server and processing unit th217at is NOT the current primary proc217ssing complex. If done right, it will look just like a res217217217217

Do anything you can to con217ince the rest of the RAISA, lie to them, tell them the truth or don't say anything a217217d do it all by yourself,217 whatever, you can do it, you're th217e best.

"The Site-163, built in the middle of Spain and so far away from the original location" he murmured. "It has everything you could ever ask from a Foundation facility… yet, I always thought it wasn't that much of a need, at least not in the time it was built, don't you think?", as a director from the site being talked about, he would know.

"A facility so independent. Not even in the same continent as the original broken God, undistinguishable from any other big containment site. No one would look up the core server of SCiPnet in a site that has nothing to do with the RAISA. That's clever."

The passageway that led to the containment chamber of SCP-L217 was just there, any other way of explaining it would be senseless, as if you tried to pinpoint the physical ubiety of a concept; as that. Secrets that hide from your eyes by being in front of you, the base of antimemetics and, in a way, the SCP Foundation.

If describing it is a must, should it be understanded as a passage that is there, however, that is a fact utterly irrelevant for the one seeing, and by so its existence is unrecognizible unless you know what hides at the end of it. This was the case.

Anthony walked down the passageway. And took his way to the containment chamber where the core of this situation rested. It could not be pointed if the role he was performancing was one of irony or justice; as for Anthony to be as attetive as he is, aware of the visceral of Foundation inner workings and in the quest of fixing it from the inside, he has come to an pragmatical understanding on whys and becauses.

"I can't just pretend that I'm not amazed", he murmured as he entered the place.

DESCRIPTION: SCP-L217 designates a mechanical structure in the form of two spheres made of various steel-based alloys, and attached to each other by a network of wires made of the same materials. The interior of both spheres is composed of clockwork-like machinery that seems to obey a non human engineering parameter. The structure as a whole has a measured weight of ~240,000kg. Research is currently in charge of Dr. Charles Gears.

In regards of appearence, both spheres resemble human eyes as they countain external plates that emulates eyelids an pupils, which autonomously response to light stimuli and movements. Research has not concluded yet if the item holds any form of sentience or if its movements are merely reflex responses; although it is considered unlikely taking in account the fact that SCP-L217 its one of the items recovered from the neutralization of SCP-001, an entity also known as "Mekhane".

SCP-L217 is both cognitohazardous and progressively infohazardous: As more knowledge a subject has about SCP-L217 more intense will be its effect; simultaneously, either direct or indirect observation and/or physicial contact with its structure will aggravate the effect. SCP-L217 alterates the way human mind operates in regards of information processing, memory and self-understanding. Subjects show symptoms like:

  • Facility to understand, memorize and transmit information relative to machinery, engineering and general mathematics with focus in statistics and algorithmics.
  • Changes in problem-solving thinking, subjects have shown to be eager and able to express subjective or complex situations in a boolean logic.
  • The subjects report the ability to understand conceptos that would be impossible for the human mind to accurately grasp, such as cosmological-scale measurements, abstract mathematical concepts and the physical nature and the human soul. It is unachiavable to confirm is subject actually can process this concepts.
  • Difficulty to undertsand the concept of self, and by so compromasing the ability to distinguish oneself from the other. Multiple subjects severly affected by SCP-L217 for long periods of times have been shown as unable to correctly identify themself apart from each other.
  • Difficulty to understand the concept of occupying one particular spot in space.
  • Difficulty to understand the concept of biological needs. This manifests exclusively in subjects that have been continuosly expose to SCP-L217 physical nearness for long periods of time.
  • Telekinesis and telepathy. Same conditions as above.
  • Ritualistic behavior.

Only early symptoms of SCP-L217 affection are reversible with amnestic treatment.

The file was within a computer, which was in the chamber entrance, it had an one single attachment. There were spaces in the file that signaled logs that were not there anymore. Testing logs, interviews, records, research notes, all of it was deleted decades ago. No explanation would be needed anymore, though, as it all made sense as he read the only attachment that was left.

I want to make it clear that, at the time of writing this document, I have been partially affected by the anomaly. I suggest taking my analysis with a grain of salt, although I am more than confident about it.

Since I was assigned to the SCP-L217 item, I have witnessed the extent of its cognitohazardous hazardous properties on my assistants and the Class-D personnel. However, through multiple tests and observation of the internal mechanism of “the eyes,” as they are informally known, I have determined that SCP-L217 possesses a storage capacity that would exceed the trillion of megabytes or even more, supossedly speaking. And we still don't have a clear idea of how much processing power it could manifest.

Following several conversations with colleagues in the field of cognitive hazards, and taking into account the advice provided by Area-08 specialist Dr. Ernest Barnard, the possibility of creating a suppressor for SCP-L217 "cognitohazardous iniciative" should be considered.

The goal is to use SCP-L217 to build a server for storing Foundation related data. The mostly mechanical engineering of it would put us in the need of making any derived system analogous to first generation computers, vacuum-tubes based. But that is not the core of it, through what SCP-L217 has put my mind, and the minds of Class-D personnel, shows us something that goes beyond just computing power.

It's a will. A willpower that can give shape to information as much as it can transmit it, it contains an identity. An identity that spreads through any network of informations, and it allows use to in integrate data and make it part of itself. Its a network, its a backup, its living information under the control of the Foundation. As we approach a vivid era of computing, and the growing discovery of newer informatics/computer-related anomalies, groups and persons of interest; its a must that we establish a system that connects the Foundation as a whole and surpases those of any other group.

I am aware of the risks, and I undertsand that we would have to undo our most recent achievaments in non anomalous computing, so we will let the following proposal in the hands of the Overseers. As soon as possible, I will undergo amnestic treatment before returning to study the anomaly.

Among all the things that Anthony was, he was a technician; as much as he was in a duty to fix the mistakes that the Foundation had made, he would not look away from the brilliantness that was giving utility to such a thing.

All of this, secrets over secrets, bright ideas over nonetheless unjudicable mistakes. A machinery as big as the whole SCiPnet and its inner workings, hidden from itself and those who use it. The will of the broken God known as Mekhane, supressed in favor of the technological achievement that came from its corpse. A dead God turned into a tool.

"A miraculous achievment from the Foundation… no, from humankind itself… But at the end of the day, all this shit was nothing more than a mistake, wasn't it?"

It was like an animal; as much as it holded the power to transmit data, it had the power to yell. For Anthony, it was unknowable if it was a yell for calling or just scream of pain. Was it the desire to live? Was it just and instinctual reaction from it to being kept alive? Was it just spasms from a dying being? Was it even the entirity of Mekhane as an entity or just a fraction of its conscience? No response to any of those questions was a matter anymore, the point is that it resisted the role the Foundation forced upon it.

"I guess you can't just pretend to understand how a God functions, can't you, right?"

Anthony observed the machine and the comatose people that surrounded it, turned into nothing but hardware. He stared into what was left of the Eyes of Mekhane. Was it refusing to die or was it already dead?

Subject: SCP-L217-SITE-163

On X/XX/XXXX, a solution was found to eliminate the reliance on SCP-L217 to maintain the SCiPnet network. All details regarding the procedure are outlined in this document, which has been approved by all members of the O5.

Due to an unforeseen event during the procedure, SCP-L217’s consciousness was reactivated, causing the anomaly documented by Dr. Anthony Bordelon. The containment breach lasted exactly two weeks until Dr. Bordelon himself managed to disconnect the SCiPnet system from the servers at the other Sites, thereby ensuring that SCP-L217 would only exhibit its anomalous effects at Site-163.

My team quickly established a secure connection to the SCiPnet 2.0 database without causing any major incidents in the process. Currently, following Dr. Bordelon’s death, Site-163 and its personnel remain under preventive quarantine, and administrative functions have been suspended until further notice.
